So Im doing this essay on Arthur Rackham for a design class and can I just say that not only was this guy the most talented illustrator of the 20th century, but he was also a plain old awesome person. Ive never heard of an artist so humble or sweet, this guy is amazing. It should come as no surprise that this man is my idol, and his work has thoroughly influenced my style, perhaps more than anyone else.

Please check out his work, especially his Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan works. Theyre stunning!

Also, I love the weeping angels and I cant wait for series 5 toys to come out because Im soooo getting weeping angels action figures. Yes sir, those things are amazing. Better than the Daleks any day.

The new episode of doctor who is here! And it was phenominal! I thoroughly approve of Mr. Matt Smith

So. Just started watching Flight of the Conchords. Although Ive only seen season 2, this show beats out the Mighty Boosh by a lot. Very funny indeed!

So, Skins 4 is done. This season sucked badly. And why was it only 8 episodes long? Ughhh, this season was so utterly filled with drama. In that respect I liked seasons 1 and 2 a lot better than the "new" cast, because the problems were more real, now its just a soap opera. Oh well, at least Naomi and Emily are happy once more.

Also, just watched Firefly and I loved it! Im not one for westerns or sci fi, but this was pretty good, I gotta say. And it made me appreciate Nathan Fillion in Dr. Horrible a lot more

I know, I know, Ive been a terrible deviant. School is a totally awesome excuse though, isnt it? Im not actually as busy as last semester, though I find myself totally uninspired and I dont really care this semester. Luckily most of my projects are illustration based this time, so Im feelin the type of work a lot more than something like, say, typography?
I particularly like the assignment im working on atm, which is to take a fairytale, put a twist on it and illustrate 3 scenes from it as well as the cover. Im loving this SO much because for my whole time at ACAD Ive been challenging myself. Ive never done anything in my own style because Ive wanted to grow more as an artist, and partially because I was terrified no one would like it. LUCKILY, it seems to be going okay. This makes me very happy. When I get the project back I'll post em right away.
So yeah, this whole illustration thing is really working out for me. Very happy about that.

Also, going to learn screen printing in the next week so I can sell me some shirts at my schools Show and Sale. Gunna be sweet.

Sad side note: have to find a job for summer. Thinking of being a service clerk at co-op.  D:

But I finally decided to do a blog! Its not entirely going to be a sketchblog,  but I'll have lots of rough stuff up there as well as other random stuff I like and probably some pics from school. Heres the linkage: [link]

Anyways, back at school, and the time is wizzing by so fast already!! I have to get back into my sleep cycle from last semester, my body's not used to this whole sleep-for-three-hours thing yet. Good news is that this semester is a lot freer in how we want to create our projects, so I get to develop my style! Exciting! Last semester was so technical, this ones a lot more illustrative, which is right up my alley.

Art school is totally getting to me. I totally want to go out and buy some skinny jeans and huge blazers. Mmm I want clothes. Its become a bad habit of mine to surf online clothing stores while in English class. Too bad you need money to shop and Im 100% broke at the moment D:
Anthropologie and Modcloth are like crack.



BTW MUSIC: So into La Roux (theyve's grown on me fo sho) lately, and just tonight I discovered The Gossip. Check out "Heavy Cross", its so amazing! To be honest I never really liked La Roux before, but thats because I hadnt heard much of their stuff other than Bulletproof, which is seriously their worst song. Look up Tigerlily, Quicksand and Cover my Eyes. But yes, awesome music always helps art. And yeah, the Gossip is fantastic, and Beth Ditto is like my new idol.

Hey guys, so now that Im done school for the semester I've been uploading my school stuff, so sorry about that. Im uploading it just so you guys get to see the fun stuff I do all day... and night.

But yeah, now Im working on christmas gifts so those miiiiiight be put up at some point if they turn out well enough. But yeah, maybe some personal stuff at some point but until then enjoy your winter break (if you get one)

ANYhow, heres my little rant about school...

ABOUT ACAD:
I'll be honest, I get pretty pissed off when people diss ACAD, saying its not a great art school when theyve never been. Its actually internationally renowned, especially for its design program, and people come from all over the world (though mainly north america) to go here. We just got permission to start doing masters degrees here, so in a few years Im sure you'll be able to get a Masters in Design at the very least at this school. Now, I know that some of the stuff that comes out of this school isnt fantastic, but that goes for any school. However, it might interest you to know that Sam Weber went here and graduated only a few years ago from the design stream, and he is now internationally famous. Seriously, look up his stuff, its awesome, hes even doing a book for the Folio society (thats my dream).
And yeah, not all of the teachers are fantastic, but Ive liked every design teacher Ive had here, and they all want us to succeed, most of them are super helpful and they all really know their stuff. So yeah. ACAD rocks. Deal with it. And although the building is ugly, now its like a home to me, I kinda love it <3
And the tuition's actually really cheap.
And we throw fantastic parties.

SO guyssssss! Im excited. Right now Im working on this school project where I have to make a paper sculpture of an animal (min 15") and Im doing a gorilla for mine. And its going to be life sized. OH YEAH, you heard me! This thing is going to be massive. And its due on thursday while I have two other projects due next week. This is going to be brutal but SO worth it.

I also have to do this chess board assignment for my perspective class. What a pain. When I post it, dont be expecting anything too creative or awesome.

I also wanna show you guys the Maori playing cards I was working on for forever, but I dont have em, my prof took em, so when they're up on the "wall of fame" I'll photograh em and post them. I love them!!


I just ate a chocolate bar so Im kinda in a really good mood right now. That'll last until I inevitably cut off a finger or singe myself with a glue gun.

ANYHOW, I need you guys to entertain me while Im alone in this classroom  24/7 for the next week, so send me funny videos and things to make me giggle.

Oh, I also have some stuff from my anatomy class to post on here, so keep your eyes open for some skeletons (fml)

And Im not posting any typography stuff. Because I hate my projects from that class.
